What to Submit
DNA Magazine specialises in pieces of creative non-fiction and accepts pieces of prose, poetry and Twitterature. Where possible, we would love you to send in photographs of the people, places or objects/copies of documents which inspired you to write your piece so that we can consider publishing them alongside your work. This helps provide the reader with a tangible visual link to your writing. (Please ensure you own the copyright of any images you send in).
Prose: max 500 words
Poetry: max 30 lines
Twitterature: max 144
characters (ex. title)
Either attach your submission to an email as a Word .doc/.docx or Pages .pages file or copy your text into the body of the email. Do not send PDF files.
Each issue of DNA Magazine has a specific theme. Only send in work in response to the current Call for Submissions theme.
You can submit:
3 pieces of prose
3 pieces of poetry
5 pieces of Twitterature
4 pieces of a mixed selection
If you want to send in a piece that is under consideration by another journal, please let us know in your email. If it gets accepted elsewhere, let us know immediately so that we don't select it.
DNA Magazine will accept work featured in other magazines / journals providing it hasn't been published within the last 12 months and is available for republishing. Please mention this in your submission email.
Include a 35-40 word, third person author bio with your submission. Don't worry if you haven't been published previously – your bio will have no impact on the selection process.
Please check the relevant issue page that you are submitting work for for deadline dates. Submissions are open for two months per issue and close at Midnight (UK) on the stated day.
We aim to respond to all submissions within three weeks of the submission deadline. However, DNA is run by volunteers and response times may be longer in busy periods.
DNA Magazine is run as a volunteer-run, not-for-profit enterprise. As the magazine is freely available, we do not make any money and cannot pay for content.
If you are submitting an image or scanned document with your piece, please save it as a .jpg file with a resolution of 300 dpi. If you are unsure how to check this, ask and we will check it.
Do not resubmit work that has already been considered unless you are invited to. If we feel your piece may suit a planned later theme, we may ask you to allow us to consider it for that issue.
